UWORLD U1 humanoid robot from UBTECH has quickly become one of the most talked-about consumer robotics launches of 2026. Within 10 days of pre-orders opening on JD.com, the U1 series reportedly attracted more than 3,800 reservations, signaling growing interest in emotionally interactive humanoid companions.

On June 2, 2026, UBTECH’s consumer brand UWORLD opened pre-sales for the U1 series. Buyers were required to place a refundable deposit of RMB 3,000 (around $420). The robot is scheduled for official launch on June 30, with first deliveries expected later in the year.

The product sits at the intersection of robotics and AI companionship, positioning itself not just as a machine, but as a full-size humanoid companion robot designed for everyday home interaction.

From Industrial Robotics to Consumer Companionship

UBTECH, a Shenzhen-based robotics company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (9880.HK), has long focused on industrial and service robots. The launch of UWORLD marks a shift toward consumer-facing humanoids designed for home environments and personal interaction.

According to official company materials, UBTECH’s mission is to bring intelligent robots into everyday life. The U1 series is part of that broader strategy, moving humanoid robotics from factories into domestic spaces.

The pre-order momentum suggests early demand for emotionally responsive machines, especially in categories linked to companionship, assistance, and interactive AI systems.

    Pre-Order Response and Market Attention

By June 12, just 10 days after launch, U1 had exceeded 3,800 pre-orders. The total deposit volume surpassed RMB 10 million (about $1.4 million). Final retail pricing has not been disclosed.

The strong early response reflects growing curiosity around AI companion robots and their potential role in everyday life. While still in pre-release stage, U1 has already entered public debate as one of the first full-size humanoid systems aimed at home users.

Two Models: Male and Female Humanoid Robots

The U1 series comes in two configurations: a male humanoid robot and a female humanoid robot. Both are full-body machines with humanoid proportions and designed for home environments rather than industrial tasks.

The male version stands at 183 cm and weighs about 42 kg. Promotional materials present it in a formal suit, emphasizing a composed, professional appearance.

The female version is smaller at 168 cm and weighs 35.2 kg. It has drawn significant attention for its customization features, including adjustable facial styling and makeup elements such as eyeshadow, blush, and lipstick.

Both versions include 88 degrees of freedom, enabling complex movement across limbs, head, and torso. The battery life is reported at approximately 2–4 hours per charge.

This combination of physical form and customization is why the term “robot girlfriend” frequently appears in online discussions around the product.

What Makes the U1 Humanoid Robot Stand Out

    1. 88 degrees of freedom for human-like motion

The U1 system integrates 88 degrees of freedom, distributed across the head, torso, arms, hands, and legs. This allows smoother transitions in movement, including gestures, posture shifts, and conversational body language.

Small motion details such as head turns or blinking patterns contribute to a more natural interaction experience, reducing the mechanical feel often associated with early humanoid prototypes.

    2. Emotional AI designed for interaction

U1 uses a generative emotional AI system capable of processing natural language while also analyzing tone, facial expression, and speech rhythm. The system adapts responses based on perceived emotional state.

Unlike standard chatbots that respond only to text input, this model is designed for multimodal interaction, combining audio, visual cues, and contextual memory.

Over time, it is expected to adjust its behavior based on repeated user interaction, shaping a more personalized communication pattern.

    3. Local encrypted memory and privacy design

The robot stores interaction data, preferences, and conversational memory through a local encrypted memory system. This approach is intended to reduce reliance on cloud-based storage.

Memory plays a central role in the product design. The system is built to remember user habits, emotional responses, and daily routines, allowing for longer-term contextual awareness during interaction.

This also places privacy at the center of the user experience, as the robot gradually builds a detailed behavioral profile through ongoing use.

    Market Position and Broader Context

The U1 launch reflects a wider shift in the robotics industry, where companies are moving beyond industrial automation toward consumer companionship systems.

UBTECH Robotics is among the few companies actively developing full-stack humanoid platforms that combine motion control, AI interaction, and commercial deployment.

JD.com serves as the distribution platform for U1 pre-orders, highlighting the role of major e-commerce ecosystems in bringing robotics products to early consumers.

The emergence of U1 also reflects broader interest in AI-driven companionship systems, where robotics, emotional computing, and personalized memory converge into a single product category.
